Billing Types
Every line item in a quote has a billing type that describes how it's charged. Quoteworks supports several billing types to accommodate different pricing models.
Available billing types
| Billing Type | Description | How it appears on the quote |
|---|---|---|
| One-Time | A single, upfront charge. | Shown as a flat amount. |
| Monthly | A recurring charge billed every month. | Shown with a "/mo" label. |
| Annual | A recurring charge billed every year. | Shown with a "/yr" label. |
| Credits | A prepaid credit balance. | Shown with a "credits" label. |
| Unlimited | Unlimited usage or access. | Shown with an "unlimited" label. |
| Free Trial | A no-cost trial period. | Shown with a "free trial" label. |
| Included | Included at no extra cost. | Shown with an "included" label. |
Setting the billing type
When editing a line item, click the billing type dropdown and select the appropriate option. The default is "One-Time."
The billing type affects how the item's total is displayed and how it's grouped in the quote totals.
Mixing billing types
You can use different billing types within the same quote — even within the same section. For example, a section called "Software" might include:
- A one-time setup fee
- A monthly subscription
- An annual support contract
Quoteworks keeps everything organized and shows separate totals for each billing type so your customer can clearly see what's charged once versus what recurs.
Tips
- Choose the billing type that matches your actual pricing model. If a service is billed monthly, mark it as Monthly so the customer sees the correct recurring amount.
- Use "Included" for items that come at no extra cost but are still worth highlighting (e.g., "Onboarding session — Included").
- Use "Free Trial" to show trial periods that will eventually convert to paid.
